So, welcome to this new Legend of Zelda forum.
This post is just an introductory thread, in order to reveal some of the plans I have for the forum, for those who may wish to join.
First, some of the basics. The money will, of course, be rupees. You will earn 5 rupees per post.
---The Upgrade System---
This will be similar to the one used in Skyward Sword. Nearly all items available on the forum will have different upgrade options. To upgrade an item will require rupees, as well as special items.
These items will be obtained by different methods.
1) 10 RP Posts
Every 10 posts (or you can wait for a multiple of 10 to get multiple items in bulk), you will be able to post a request for an item to be added to your character sheet. This will have been assumed to have been found randomly during the course of your RP.
The higher your RP count, the more likely it is that you will be able to obtain rarer items. However, this is not a guarantee.
2) The Store
On occasion, special items will become available in the store, and can be purchased for rupees.
3) Dungeon Bosses
When a dungeon opens, members can join in to explore it. Each dungeon has a boss, and upon defeat, items will be awarded to those who joined together to defeat the boss. Some items may only be obtained in this fashion.
---Dungeons---
Since I mentioned dungeons above, I might as well go into them in a more in-depth fashion here.
First, there will likely be two classes of dungeon. Basic dungeons will be similar to the Deku Tree, Windfall Temple, or the first dungeon of Twilight Princess. These will be VERY simple in design, and generally available for single adventurers.
The second class is more important. These will be like Instances and Raids in World of Warcraft. Meaning you will need a group to venture inside, and only a group will be allowed to do so. The puzzles will be more challenging, and the bosses will be much harder to defeat. Of course, the rewards will be increased as well.
Dungeons will not be open at the start, or to anyone that wants to enter them. Generally they will be opened at varying times.
---Character Creation and Playable Races---
Character Creation is going to be specialized this time around. Every character will generally have three options to go from.
The most basic options are available to ALL races, in one form or another.
Melee - This is a melee class. One that specializes, like Link, in combat with a weapon in hand. Such as a sword, hammer, or even their bare fist.
Ranged - This is for those who want to fight with a longbow, crossbow, or some other weapon from a distance.
Each race will also have access to a specialized class, that is only available to THAT race. Make important note of this. In order for members to be more unique, the specialized classes have been entered in.
If you choose to be a melee character, you will be allowed to train and learn melee fighting skills, such as the Jump Strike, the Finishing Blow, or the Mortal Draw. Stuff that requires a weapon.
If you choose to be a ranged character, you will gain similar fighting skills, that are more in tune with fighting from a distance.
For the special classes, I have a couple in mind for the start of the forum. More will be added as new races become available.
For Hylians, there will be a Spellcaster class option. Instead of fighting with swords or bows, you will be fighting with magical spells.
For the Gerudo bandits, there will be a Rogue class. I'm not entirely sure what the benefits will be, but the class will have benefits such as hiding from enemies, using special ranged items, maybe poisons.
Now for the playable races. Because the starting area is in the sky, only two races will be available to new members, until they reach their first 100 posts. Then new character options will become available, and they will be allowed to change characters.
Some may grumble about this, but this is in keeping with the setting. The land below is TOO dangerous for someone just starting out.
The breakdown will be discussed in the next area.
---The Three Areas---
The Sky Above is the starting area for ALL characters. It contains a collection of islands floating high in the sky. This includes Skyloft, a floating hideaway of pirates, and numerous other islands.
Because of this, the two starting races are Hylian and Gerudo.
The Land Below is the second area. It is the ground beneath, and forms what is known as Hyrule. It is a much more dangerous area, with many more monsters, and other dangers. There are also other friendly races that have survived.
Once you reach the Land Below, you will be allowed to recreate your character, if you so desire. You will be allowed to keep the stuff you have collected to this point. However, if you are using a specialized class, you will have to change your character. (You cannot be a Hylian Spellcaster, and then change to be a Goron Spellcaster.)
The races open once the Land Below is reached include Goron, Zora, Mogma, and Kikwi.
It will take you 100 RP posts and a small test from the leader of your racial group.
The final area is known only as the Terror Beneath. It consists of many vast caverns and tunnels underneath Hyrule. It is from here that the monsters first emerged in the past, when the Hylians and Gerudo were driven into the sky under the protection of the Goddess.
The Terror Beneath is the very heart of evil. Only the bravest of adventurers would even think about braving these depths. Thus you are required to pass a second test from the leader of your race, as well as being required to have 500 RP posts.
All of this might seem excessive to some of you, but it is keeping with the tradition of the game and setting. A newbie, out fresh with his sword, would not be able to survive in the lower areas. Thus the requirement of RP, to "season" the character. And build them into more of a hero. To enable them to survive.
These requirements will apply to everyone. There will be no favorites or shortcuts. If your character doesn't have the requisite posts, they will not even be able to see what goes on in the lower areas. (This does include staff characters, who will have two accounts. One for their staff work, and a second for their RP character. To ensure they only get posts fairly from RP.)
---Other Notes---
Before I finish this up, I want to add a few things.
There will only be one character per member. I may allow those who reach 1,000 posts to create a second character. After they have proven to be dedicated members.
There won't be any creation of "extra" characters to RP with from your account. If you create a character named Sam, that is a Hylian warrior, you will be expected to RP as him and no other.
There may be staff positions that can RP as custom characters when the need arises, but this will not count towards that member's RP character. Rather it is a storyteller function.
